The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the dedicated UN entity promoting women's issues. It convenes a conference annually in New York, around International Women's Day in March, to discuss and determine the global development agenda for women's rights and gender equality. In conjunction with the CSW conference, the NGO Committee on the Status of Women (NGO-CSW), comprising national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and individuals from nearly 200 countries, organizes parallel events and forums to provide a platform for advocacy and exchange among global civil society working on women's rights and gender equality.
Although Taiwan is not a UN member state, the NGO-CSW parallel events have become an important international conference for Taiwan, where it actively participates as a fixed annual event. Since 2007, the Taipei City Government has allocated budgets, consistently participated in these events and host parallel forums since 2015 without any interruptions.
